BW & BI SPS Upgrade Pre & Post Activities?

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade BW & BI 7.3 systems with its latest support package stack. I am good with all the stack calculation & upgrade process, but is there any pre & post activities specific to BW & BI to take care of them, like running specific reports  for BW environments etc.?. If yes, please guide me what needs to be done.

And which is the recommended tool now a days for BW systems SPS update? SUM or SPAM for about 8 SPS approx.
