using apps to connect to an SAP system

Dear all,

for Android and iOS there are plenty of apps available. These can be used either to connect to an SAP system or run as a dashboard, e. g. the overview of open issues of the service desk. Dashboards e. g. can easily be published on a tablet device. Running an app might even be easier than starting a pc and logging on to the system.

Using these apps there are plenty of questions to be answered.

  • How does it fit with the company's current security restrictions?
  • Can the mobile device easily be connected to the company's network?
  • Is there a firewall to be installed?
  • Are there other software components to be installed?
  • How are user-id and password stored on the mobile device?
  • Can the password be encrypted?
  • How can the encryption be done?
  • How can the connection to the SAP system be realized?
  • Which information has to be presented?
  • What kind of form has to be used for the final presentation (graph, circle etc.)?
  • What kind of informantion must not be presented?
  • What has to be done with a mobile device currently not in use?
  • Which measurements have to be taken if a mobile device gets lost?

The future belongs to mobile devices and apps. A desktop pc will still be used in the future but it's importance will decrease. Think about using a mobile device but with an appropriate rate of security awareness.
