Dear all,
for Android and iOS there are plenty of apps available. These can be used either to connect to an SAP system or run as a dashboard, e. g. the overview of open issues of the service desk. Dashboards e. g. can easily be published on a tablet device. Running an app might even be easier than starting a pc and logging on to the system.
Using these apps there are plenty of questions to be answered.
- How does it fit with the company's current security restrictions?
- Can the mobile device easily be connected to the company's network?
- Is there a firewall to be installed?
- Are there other software components to be installed?
- How are user-id and password stored on the mobile device?
- Can the password be encrypted?
- How can the encryption be done?
- How can the connection to the SAP system be realized?
- Which information has to be presented?
- What kind of form has to be used for the final presentation (graph, circle etc.)?
- What kind of informantion must not be presented?
- What has to be done with a mobile device currently not in use?
- Which measurements have to be taken if a mobile device gets lost?
The future belongs to mobile devices and apps. A desktop pc will still be used in the future but it's importance will decrease. Think about using a mobile device but with an appropriate rate of security awareness.
